The Piccadilly Museum

Step into the Past at The Piccadilly Museum in Butte, Montana

Located in uptown Butte, The Piccadilly Museum offers visitors a glimpse into the city's lively past through the lens of a historic bar and brothel. Once a notorious spot for indulgence and vice, today the Piccadilly building serves as an intriguing museum and event space.

The brick building was constructed in 1888 and first served as a saloon and gambling hall called The Palace. It became a brothel called The Piccadilly in 1907 and operated as such until 1982 when brothels were outlawed.

In 1987, new owners renovated the structure into The Piccadilly Museum. The upstairs brothel rooms were restored to their former Victorian-era glory while the downstairs houses historical exhibits and artifacts.

Visitors can take guided tours of the brothel rooms once occupied by the ladies of The Piccadilly. Each displays the lavish decor and stories of its resident prostitute back in Butte's mining heyday. Downstairs exhibits feature old photos, ledgers, costumes, and tools of the trade.

Of particular note is the display spotlighting Elinore Knott, Butte's famous "Queen of the Underworld" who ran brothels from the 1890s to the 1920s. Her notorious exploits left quite a mark on The Piccadilly's history.

By night, The Piccadilly Museum hosts an array of lively events from burlesque shows to murder mystery dinners. Guests can mingle in the historic bar and brothel rooms for a truly unique night out. The museum also rents out spaces for private parties and corporate events.

For an intriguing look at vice and indulgence in Butte's past, The Piccadilly Museum offers a one-of-a-kind experience. From the exhibits to special events, it brings this piece of local history to life.
